Organization behavior has provided managers a view of peoples reactions with groups ( Ott, Simpson, 2008). In the hierarchal travel of information the upper levels set clear expectations for the culture of workers ( Ott, Simpson, 2008). The expectations from the managers are based on assumptions concerning the market. Effective managers are expected to communication these expectations to workers through meetings, physical monitoring, cultural influences.
Some researchers have tied time based competition (TBC) to cultural behavior (Tammela, Canen, & Helo, 2013). The correlation has been established using cultural variables between the use of TBC and cultural behavior (Tammela, Canen, & Helo, 2013). The author additionally concluded TBC was used to establish new partnerships in business relations. These partnerships are what drive the business and are based on the market expectations.
The pros of TBC can be found in reduced business cycles that includes either service or product creation (Tammela, Canen, & Helo, 2013). For products in a warehouse reduced times means quicker inventory turns a process that can add larger profit margins to a company bottom line. The TBC also provides a quicker production outputs that could satisfy a larger consumer demand base. Fast production or service method can reduce time spent for each client meaning the workers can service more clients in a work period.
The cons of TBC is the potential blow to quality when focusing on quantity in production or service. Research has determined in some cases where companies are quality driven quantity suffered ( Ott, Simpson, 2008). For organizations that pay close attention to detail and its consumer base expect quality TBC is not ideal for its culture. For instance the market for Rolls Royce is the not same as that of Ford. Rolls Royce is a quality brand, while Ford is more of a quantity brand. If the culture of the market expects quantity over quality the model will be utilized in the production process.
